Conference in Memory of Professor Ben Terra
Conference
In 2019, international tax community lost one of the most distinguished professors in tax law of his generation and a top authority in Value Added Tax in Europe. Ben Terra was appointed Professor at Universities in Amsterdam, Leiden (the Netherlands) and Lund (Sweden). With the latter he was closely engaged in the second half of his academic career. In Lund he initiated and promoted education in indirect taxation through advanced level courses and eventually through Master’s Programme in European and International Tax Law and high-level seminars and conferences organized periodically for academics and practitioners. He also lectured as a visiting professor at numerous universities around the world, including in Portugal, Germany, Australia, Russia and Surinam and was a speaker at a multitude of congresses, conferences and seminars.
As a charismatic and inspiring teacher and a sharp speaker with a great sense of humor, he was greatly appreciated by his students many of whom chose a career in the field of indirect taxation because of Ben’s enthusiasm for the subject.
For this conference we have brought together the most renowned international academics and experts in tax law to celebrate the legacy of Professor Ben Terra – one of the most influential experts in the field of indirect taxation whose impressive work has been of enormous importance for academic society, policy makers, tax authorities and business alike. The conference will be focused on current issues within the major themes of Professor Terra’s work.
